Jazz has, since it came to Europe in the late 20ties, been an important part of the European music culture. The Lars Ekman Quartet is nothing but a proof of jazz music´s qualities as a cultural bridge builder between Europe and the United States. Lars Ekman, the Swedish bassist who is now an in demand player on the American and European jazz scenes has brought together three musicians that all have two things in common: the ability to create beautiful music and the fact that they are citizens of the world. The band Lars Ekman brings on the road on their winter tour is:Rafal Sarnecki -The polish guitar player who has been an active member of the New York jazz scene for the last eight years. He has recorded two albums, the third is on it´s way, as a leader. The first one was nominated for the Fryderyk Award (Poland´s equivalent of a Grammy). Rafal has performed with well respected artists as Gary Thomas, Ben Wendel, Glenn Zeleski and more.Drummer Manuel Weyand is originally from Germany but has spent nine years in New York as a busy performer and music instructor. During these years Manuel performed at some of the most famous jazz clubs and concert venues in the world like The Blue Note New York and Jazz At Lincoln Center. Since early 2013 Mr Weyand is a drum professor in Seoul, Korea and is quickly becoming a cornerstone of the growing Korean music scene. To round up his quartet Lars has brought Magnus Dölerud, one of Scandinavia´s finest saxophone players to the band. Magnus cut his teeth playing with the legendary swedish drummer Fredrik Norén (Ben Webster, Dexter Gordon etc). Magnus has also been active in the leading big bands in Sweden such as The Stockholm Concert Hall´s Blue House Jazz Orchestra and Ann-Sofi Söderquist Jazz Orchestra. In 2013 he released his debut album My Village to great critical acclaim.
